The Menu: From High Volume Industrial Food Processing to Thermal Mineral Processing

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the range of processes possible with a TORBED processor. Reviewing this prompted us to take stock of the current “menu”.

High volume industrial Food Processing applications include:

  • Popping of snacks
  • Roasting of coffee
  • Drying of potato granules
  • Drying of a fragile condiment
  • Drying of distillers grains and solids, and
  • Pasteurisation of herbs and spices

In thermal mineral processing we are looking at:

  • Calcination of clay to create a cement substitute,
  • Drying of chalk,
  • Calcination of paper sludge: deriving energy from a waste and creating a cement substitute.
  • Drying of polyhalide natural fertilizer

In addition, we have also been working on thermal biomass processing- preparing initial engineering for a biomass pyrolysis plant which if implemented would combine TORBED dryers with a TORBED pyrolyser.

All of this illustrates not only the flexibility of our technology but also the breadth of skills of our team of engineers, able to switch from food to minerals to biomass and from process temperatures of less than 100ºC to in excess of 1000ºC.
