Torftech’s Processors: Are They Circular Economy Solutions Equipment?

One of the key uses of our processors has been for waste disposal: paper sludge, waste clay, spent aluminium pot lining, clinical waste, waste wood and many others. When undertaking these processes, we always have an eye to the circular economy.

Some processes are naturally the end of the road, rendering the waste safe or at least less hazardous. The combustion of spent aluminium pot lining comes into this category as do, for example, incineration of clinical waste and scrubbing HF out of aluminium smelter emissions. Other processes enable a circular economy; materials change their state but are re-used.

  • Gasification of waste wood creates heat and thereby power and biochar.
  • Calcination of certain waste clays to produce an activated clinker substitute for cement making.
  • Drying of paper sludge using waste industrial heat to make animal bedding.
  • Drying of sawdust as a precursor to making biomass pellets.
  • Calcination of dried paper sludge to produce heat and a cementitious mineral.
  • Recycling saturated oil industry catalysts by burning out the hydro-carbons

Torftech’s processors are doing many of these things every day at temperatures ranging from 100ºC to 1000ºC bringing their customary control, accuracy and flexibility. If you are searching for circular economy solutions equipment for a gas-solid contacting process, look no further!
